![]() I may on occasion reread an author but Agatha Christie is the only one I've reread constantly throughout my life, making a study of HOW DID SHE DO IT? She truly was a marvel and still unsurpassed. Here she is with one of her fox terriers, her favorite breed. A very cute example of the breed named Bob starred in Dumb Witness, a televised version of which we watched the other night. Bob is falsely accused of being responsible for the crime - quelle outrage!

My agent Mark Gottlieb of Trident Media Group hosts a blog where he interviews industry insiders about the publishing industry. This is where you get the true story of what's changing and what's staying the same. What agents and editors want and what they don't want.
Yesterday Mark interviewed my editor at Severn House, Carl Smith. There is so much good info in here I urge you to read it. I should add, there is much good talk about my upcoming book, DEATH IN CORNWALL, also. https://literaryagentmarkgottlieb.com/blog/commissioning-editor-at-severn-house-carl-smith I just got the signed 2-book contract for Augusta Hawke I and II. The first of these should appear in late 2022? At a guess. So thrilled to be starting something I'm completely taken with. I'm busily plotting the second book in series as I write the first. Sounds crazy, I know, but that way I don't get bored with either. And I may catch any inconsisitencies that crop up between the two.
I love my job! These days travel planning is definitely an exercise in optimism. I just came across an article about what to do if you come down with Covid when you're in a country which is foreign to you. Of course the answer is, it depends. It depends on the country, it depends on the severity of your symptoms. On and on. So basically I'm hiding my head in the sand. I have one vacation planned in Europe, and two in the United States. All of these in 2022. All you can do at the end of the day is hope for the best, get vaccinated, get boosters where appropriate, and go enjoy your life. That's the only option open to us these days.
![]() Our trip is now booked, FAR in advance. Two days in #Dublin to start. Nowadays, cancellation policies and insurance are the first things to think about. Then we start dreaming of all the places we want to fit into just two days. Suggestions welcome. Already know about the Book of Kells, first stop! Urge to travel very strong! Playing it safe, still, but I really want to get to Dublin and on to Edinburgh and London to meet my new publishers. Those are two of my favorite cities in the world, besides! Counting on the world to be a safer place by July. Not only am I fully vaccinated, I'm going to get a booster. ![]() I just received my royalty statements for my seven Max Tudor books. I wish I were an accountant so I could easily understand the sales figures. I have vowed to master this skill, however, so there goes most of Sunday - a day normally set aside for actual writing (AW).
The things they don't tell you about being a writer! The good news is I can now jettison most things that get in the way of AW. No complaints, I am living my dream and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's just ... an accounting degree would have helped. |
