Myth #1 (of about 100 - I'm writing an eBook on this topic):
Your editor will rewrite whatever's wrong with your manuscript. Just send it in half-baked and she'll do the rest. It really doesn't work that way. The writer sends in the best version of her book possible, a version she believes is publishable as is. The editor spots any inconsistencies and points them out. An editor never, ever rewrites. There is a rule about that. This subject is on my mind as I go through a manuscript of mine, a standalone, for about the 6th time, trying to get it exactly right. I just realized I may have to go through it yet again. This is a manuscript that has been languishing for two years, so I guess there is no rush, unlike with many of my others. This one has to be perfect no matter how long it takes. Fingers crossed! |
